Vote for £400,000 to boost parks in Penge and Sydenham9.18.32am GMT Sat 29th Nov 2008 Londoners have been invited to vote for their local park to receive £400,000 from the GLA to help fund improvements such as bins and seats, sports pitches and flower-beds. Parks in Penge and Sydenham have been included in the shortlist, and local Lib Dem campaigners are encouraging as many local people as possible to cast their vote. "Cast your vote for the Penge parks or Mayow Park and tell your friends, family and neighbours to do the same," said Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Lewisham West & Penge, Alex Feakes. "Let's make the most of this opportunity to get more funding for better parks in our area." Betts Park, Royston Field and Penge Recreation Ground have been grouped together as 'Penge Parks' in the poll, and the improvements on offer include new play facilities, a BMX park, an outdoor gym, improvements to Betts canal and better planting. Mayow Park in Sydenham is also on the list, and funding would be available for improved signage and railings, restoring the Victorian drinking fountain, a multisports pitch and more bins and seating. Voting is on-line at www.london.gov.uk/parksvote/region/southeast, by mobile phone (text 'parks' and your full London post code to 62967), or you vote by post by contacting the Public Liaison Unit on 020 7983 4100 who will send you a ballot paper.
