The Mayor's 2008/9 budget

12.00.00pm GMT Thu 31st Jan 2008

All interested members of the public are welcome to join Lewisham's Public Accounts Committee as we scrutinise the Mayor of Lewisham's spending plans for 2008/9. The meeting will take place at 7pm on Tuesday 5^th February, in Committee Room 1 at the Town Hall in Catford.

Within the proposals is a net budget for the year of £262m, a three-year capital programme of £189m, 5.4% increase in housing rents and a 2.5% increase in Council Tax. The Mayor's plans include cuts and savings of over £12m in council services from last year to meet expected increases in costs.

Following the elections in 2006 that saw Labour lose its majority on the council, the Mayor's plans are now subject to real scrutiny. The Mayor will be present at the meeting to defend his proposals under questioning from the Committee.

Come along and see democracy in action!
