Let's make Kirkdale safe, say Lib Dems

Local residents join Forest Hill councillors John Russell, Philip Peake and Alex Feakes campaigning for a safe crossing for Kirkdale

Local Residents and Lib Dem Councillors call for Road Safety Improvements on Kirkdale, Forest Hill.

On Wednesday Cllr John Russell will hand in a petition from some 300 local residents at Full Council calling on Lewisham Council to make road safety improvements to Kirkdale that runs between Sydenham Hill and Dartmouth Road before someone is killed or seriously injured on this dangerous stretch of road. There have been a number of accidents on this road over the past two years. Cars regularly travel far to fast up and down this steep hill.

Local resident Felicity Sheehan said "As a parent I know that there are 3 schools close to this road with no crossing patrols and I am seriously concerned that a child is going to get hurt. The cars drive down here like it is a race track. I am disappointed that Lewisham Council have thus far not recognised the concerns of local residents let alone tried to resolve them."

Councillor John Russell said "As a local resident I know just how dangerous this stretch of road is. I am pleased to be working with local residents on this issue. I am disappointed that Lewisham does not recognise the serious danger that this road poses to local residents. I hope now that they will implement a full traffic survey and consult with local residents about the results and potential proposals to slow the speed of traffic on this road."
