Liberal Democrat Tom Papworth was the victor in the Crystal Palace by-election on 6th September, winning just under 50% of the votes cast.

Tom commented after the election count: "This is a spectacular victory for the Liberal Democrats and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of councillors Chris Gaster and John Canvin over the years. I am proud to have been elected to continue that work and I promise to work as hard for this area as Chris Gaster did."

The Lib Dem leader on Bromley council, Cllr David McBride, welcomed Tom to the team, saying it was a huge boost to the party locally. "To win so convincingly is a tremendous boost to us in Bromley and also in the new parliamentary seat of Lewisham West & Penge, where Labour is now under threat."

The full result was:

Tom Papworth (Lib Dem) 1,051 (49.7%)Labour 537 (25.4%)Conservative 389 (18.8%)Green 129 (6.1%)
