Forest Hill ward Lib Dem councillors Alex Feakes and Philip Peake joined local and international volunteers for Forest Hill Clean-Up Day last week. The team of twenty tackled litter and overgrown bushes along the railway path from Clyde Vale to Longfield Crescent.

The Clean-Up was organised as part of the Capital Clean Up programme run in conjunction with the Green Gym and British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, and involved twelve boroughs across London. Lewisham's events were organised by Colin Sandiford, and brought together youth-work volunteers from local residents associations and from as far a field as South Korea and America.

Cllr Feakes commented: "The Clean Up Day has made a real difference to the railway path, making it safer and more pleasant for all to use. Volunteering for conservation work is a great way for all of us to improve our local environment, and a good way to get fit too!"
