Death-defying acts are not normally required for MPs and parliamentary candidates nowadays, even if the recent expenses row has seen all politicians - including aspiring ones - have been in the firing line. But nevertheless, Lewisham West & Penge candidate for the Lib Dems, Alex Feakes, has pledged to plunge off the top of King's College Hospital on 5th July as part of a charity abseil in support of local charity, the Voluntary Care Centre.

Official figures show that falling property values have cost Lewisham Council £234 million in the last twelve months according to research undertaken by Lib Dem Councillor Mark Bennett.

The way some MP's have used their expenses is an absolute disgrace. We now need a total overhaul of the way MP's are compensated: it is not acceptable for MPs to use taxpayer's money to profit from their second homes, Nor should it be thought reasonable for Beckenham's current Conservative MP, for example, to claim £7,000 in annual driving expenses for representing a constituency only 12 miles from Parliament.

Over 90% of people surveyed by Liberal Democrats in Forest Hill want to keep swimming in a new pool on the current Dartmouth Road site. The survey was carried out throughout April and May as Lewisham Council began a public consultation about the future of the leisure facility, which has been closed since the beginning of 2006.

Lewisham West & Penge parliamentary spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, Cllr Alex Feakes, has slammed local Labour MP Jim Dowd for failing to do his job properly after figures released by the House of Commons showed that the MP turned up to fewer than half the meetings of the key Health Select Committee.

Two local parks shortlisted for an injection of City Hall cash have lost out to green spaces in Greenwich following a pan-London public vote. Mayow Park in Sydenham and a group of parks in Penge, including Betts Park, were nominated to receive cash to help spruce up the public spaces as part of the 'Help a London Park' initiative. In the south eastern area of London, only two parks received the money: Avery Hill and Parish Wood Park, both in Greenwich borough.
